Wow this post is epicly long! A little over a year ago, in the post about selling our first house in Enoch, I promised a post titled "our biggest project ever" about the renovation of our house in Black Rock. Well now that we are about to start the renovation of our next house in the Cove I realized two things: 1- it is about time to post the before and after pictures from the Black Rock house and 2- "biggest project ever" really isn't true. Each project is bigger than the last. So even though the Black Rock house seemed like a huge undertaking a year ago it looks like a cake walk compared to what we have ahead of us. Anyway here are the before and afters of 378 N Pachea Trail "The Black Rock House".

And that's all! It was such a great house to start out with. It took us about 5 weeks from start to move in. Then it took us about 9 months after we moved in to really finish every thing up. We had a few surprises along the way like: a broken water shut off in the garage, a cracked shower pipe that shot water through the sheet rock and sprayed across the room, the main electrical line in the pantry we were demolishing and one pesky mouse. But over all everything went really smoothly and took the amount of time and money we expected.
It was a family affair! For the first two weeks Dustin's brother Jesse worked with us and all of the kids came along too! It was so nice that the HOA took care of the exterior so the yard was in great shape. The kids played outside, on the deck and set up shop in lawn chairs next to where we were working. Libby called the house, "Our new broken house."
but got super bored after that. They got desperate for fun and taking extreme amounts of strange pictures helped satisfy the boredom temporarily.
Unfortunately, since the loan process took so much longer than promised, we didn't get to start working as early in the summer as we had wanted to. Half way through the renovation we had to move out of the apartment we were staying in because it was time for the college students to move in for the semester. My parents saved us by letting us move into their basement for two weeks while we finished up. We never would have been able to finish in just two weeks if my mom wouldn't have babysat all of our kids - all day, every day- so that both Dustin and I could work on finishing up.
My mom even got Mckay to eat real food, it was a miracle! They were much happier with her than at our "new broken house." Our kids didn't get to do any vacations or really do anything they had hoped to do in the summer because of the renovation. We learned that we can't ever do it like that again. We need to have a more realistic schedule and have a place we can live for the whole renovation.
We listed the house this May and closed in July. We were really happy with the final product and we think the buyers were to! We are excited to get going on our next project!
