We spent SO much time watching softball, baseball, and soccer games! My Dad and Heath coached Laura's team and my mom was the score keeper/team mom. We went to most of her games. She is such a good pitcher! They had a pretty good team and finished with one of the best records in the league. Laura made it on the All - Star team and the rest of the family resumed their regular season roles on that team too.
Trevin played his first year of Little League! We were less than impressed with his coaches. They had good players but the team got worse as the season progressed. It was quite a frustrating experience! Good thing the other parents were up beat and fun to sit with or I would have been crazy! Trevin learned that he really does like baseball though. He enjoyed himself even though his team was not successful and he had to play in the outfield and bat last "because he was only eight". By the end of the season we finally got him to swing that bat and not just hope for a walk! The games were discouraging so I didn't even take one picture! I'm such a bad mom. But we all got in on the baseball spirit at home where it was much more enjoyable.
I attempted to plan a golfing get away for my parents, that the rest of the family could tag along on of course, But the overnight stay didn't work out. I had reserved spots for us to visit the Payson Temple open house on our way up north. We didn't want to miss out on this so went anyway even though the trip didn't work out. Laura brought her friend Khloe and we all had a good time seeing the gorgeous temple! The detail in there is so amazing.
It was a quick trip - up and back. The rest of the family headed home after the open house but we continued north to meet up with Dustin's first mission companion in Lehi. We had just recently reconnected with Elder Moore after losing touch almost 10 years ago! It was so fun to meet his family and see their beautiful home. In true Libby fashion she made herself at home. She hide in the bedrooms, broke furniture and played with their pets. I think we may have given the Moores a shock! They were so sweet and just went with it.
And then it was back to more games. Spring soccer can have some crazy weather. For Trevin's last game on the "Ghost Knights" it was cold and rainy. But that didn't stop them. They still had a great time and won that game by double digits.
This team had a great coach! One of Trevin's best friends, Q's dad was the coach. He kept things fun, positive and fast paced. Every kid on the team was a great player and in most games everyone scored a couple of goals.
Trevin was in Heaven! He loved every minute!
Trevin had great support for all of his games but especially his last one. Bryce and Shelynne were in town so they came to watch with their kids along with Grandma Emi and Grandma Zelda. It was so great of them to brave the cold for Trev. He loved having a large cheering section.
After the game we all headed up to the cabin! It had been storming for days before and I was skeptical that we would even be able to get to the cabin in the trucks! But Bryce had no fear and drove his little tiny car! I was a nervous wreck for them! The roads were so muddy and we were sliding everywhere. I was sure they would get stuck or injure themselves but they were fine and almost made it all the way. They jumped in with us for the last little bit and we all made it there in one piece. Phew!
There was still snow on the ground around the cabin so Libby started up her own snow cone business. Snow cones were free for the day and only came in one flavor - plain and kids couldn't get enough of them. There were so many kids all crammed into that little cold cabin but they had a great time playing together and didn't seem to mind the cold.
Mckay and Libby are the best play mates - most of the time. They do pretty much everything together including bathe. Usually Mckay just follows Libby's lead (which can be very dangerous) but some times he just can't take her anymore. During this bath in particular he had enough of Libby trying to steal his new bath boats.
We are really into hiking this summer. Anytime we have a free day we like to try a new hike. We had one free Saturday and decided to spend it in Zion. We hadn't decided which hike we were going to do before we got on the bus. We were almost to the end of the route so we got off and decided to take the Hidden Canyon Trail. We knew nothing about it but figured it was a good length and climbed in elevation quite a bit so it would have great views. Well we should have equated a climb in elevation with steep! Man this trail was straight up hill. With Mckay on your back that is quite the work out.
We finally got to what we thought was the top and looked around. The next part of the trail required pulling yourself straight up the side of a rock using chains! What!? There was no way we were doing that so we ate some snacks, took a few pictures and headed straight back down.
We didn't last long on that trail so we had a lot of time left to kill in the day. We spend some of that time playing in the water at the head of the trail. And then decided to head over to good old reliable Emerald Pools.
Well we had spent all of the cool morning time trying unsuccessfully to conquer Hidden Canyon so Emerald Pools was so hot. We were very relived to reach the pools and cool off in the shade. Libby was so hot and exhausted that she had to be carried for part of the way. I was worried she had heat exhaustion. But once we reached the pools she was back to her wild self and went around visiting the other hikers and attempted to jump off of a boulder into the water. Trevin on the other hand has amazing stamina. He led the way on both trails. He is a fast hiker and finds all of the good shady spots to wait in while we catch up. He's a tough guy. Mckay has it good. He rides in the back pack and sleeps for most of the time. Ahh to be a baby.
And just like that the school year was over. Trevin loved second grade. He was so brave! He didn't know a single soul at his new school, he didn't even know who his teacher was until the night before the first day. But he got right in there and made a lot of really great friends. He loved his teacher and learned so much. One of the assignments he did in second grade was a culture trunk. He had to bring items to take out of a trunk that represented him, his family, and his culture. One of his items was his favorite book, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims. When he was telling the class about the book he introduced it as Rush Revere and the Brave REPBULICANS. Ha ha. I found that pretty awesome and also made me wish there were a few more "Brave Repulicans" today. Anyway his teacher sounded interested in the book so we got her her own copy. Trevin was so excited to give it to her.
